So we've made a deal that on her actual day of birth (April 30), just Jamie and I will go and get her ears pierced. That's the big deal when you turn six in this house (and, no, Jacob will not be getting anything pierced!-we will figure out something else for him). Jamie is pretty happy about going out to do such a big treat with just mom and she doesn't want to wait for 6 months like Mazie did. She even suggested that we get a sitter to watch Jacob so we can go as soon as school is over! We will just have to see about that.

Wednesday with Jamie
Jamie, as you may know, used to suck her thumb. She has been free of that habit for more than a year now. Her front teeth have straighten out significantly. Her back teeth, however, have had a problem with this change.
Her tongue had been resting on her back teeth while she sleeps. This has made them not grow out the way they should and so she has to chew in the front of her mouth. Do you remember when your little ones were getting their teeth and they would chew with them? Yep, it's just like that. Only now she has lost her bottom two teeth and the gums are a little sensitive with the permanent teeth coming in. So she has adjusted to eating on the corners of her mouth. All this because her tongue has made it so her back teeth do not touch.
So yesterday the dentist (who is also a pediatric orthodontist) called to say he wanted to see her and figure out a plan of action to get her tongue to cooperate. For this week she has a rubber band spacer in her back teeth to start the separating process. Next week she will get a bigger one placed and some molds taken of her teeth. The following week she will have a crib placed. The dentist says it looks like a torture device because of all the medal. Basically it is a device that will be cemented to her back teeth with wires hanging down to prevent her tongue from laying on her back teeth. She gets this placed two days before her big birthday and she isn't crazy about the idea. The bad thing is the dentist isn't 100% convinced it will work. This is the way we have to do things in order for the insurance to pick up the tab. I'm just happy the kids' dentist is awesome and really explains things to them instead of just me. And because of that, Jamie isn't scared about the whole thing. She's just not happy that it has to be before her birthday.

How exciting about the earrings. And at least her teeth will get fixed right?
Awesome pix...the first picture,Jamie...you look very much like Mazie....your face is slimming and you are getting older...(I know your mother doesn't like hearing that you are getting older)
I too would like to keep all of you from getting any older...but that is impossible...sounds like you have an awesome dentist...so on with the "tooth/tongue fixing"...better now than later in life:-)!
Just keep smiling...keeps people wodering what you are up to!!!!Love you!
Atta girl, Jamie! I knew you would be a brave girl about the whole teeth thing - and I am sure it won't be too long before the teeth have straightened themselves out and you will be able to eat normally. Congratulations on getting your ears pierced - I know you will be very responsible and will be able to take good care of them. call me and let me know when you have new earrings! Love ya, girl!
Oh my goodness... I'm so nervous for her- what a brave little girl she is! I say hip hip hooray for her sixth birthday and ear piercing day- that will be such a special memory for her.
Wow--what an ordeal! Jamie is such a big girl, though, to go through all that. And ear piercing?! What a big girl and a special treat!
