Jamie's Day

You know, having three kids, you would think that it gets into your head that the kids are going to get older. Each year, on their birthday. But still it hits me like a ton of bricks, each year, each child.

This one was no different. Jamie turned six and it shocked me to see that she was actually six. Last night I went downstairs to wrap some presents for her and found myself flipping through her first year scrapbook. It seems like just yesterday she was waiting to be born and happy to flip around inside my belly. The fact that it wasn't just yesterday doesn't get easier to get over.ever. And the feeling seems to be a little different with each child.

Jamie has always been our quiet child. Our reserved, laid back, wait to assess the situation before acting child. Easy.

When I asked what she wanted for her birthday this year she simply said, "a party with my school friends and a purple purse cake". She wanted to be the center of attention on her birthday and that was it.
Today seemed to be so much more for her though. Her name was announced on the morning announcements for being a Comet with a birthday. She got a really cool pencil and ribbon from the office. She got to spend time with Dad for their lunch date to Macaroni Grill (of course) right after school.
She spent a little mama and daughter time with me at the mall. She was awesome with the whole ear piercing thing...
She picked purple heart studs and loved the way they looked in her ears...
She enjoyed walking around with mom for a little. Neither of us were quite ready to go home as soon as the piercing was over so we just enjoyed each other. I got a few shots of my girl just enjoying the water...
We checked out the pet store and maybe stopped for a pair of cute sandals:)! We headed home, doing subtraction problems together, and had to skype Pop Pop to show him the new earrings...
Jamie opened a few gifts while supper was getting ready. She ordered up a Costco rotisserie chicken, couscous, and broccoli for her birthday meal. See, I told you, she's easy! Then it was onto her birthday star (chocolate with peanut butter icing tinted purple). She's making sure there are six candles...
After a (very) loud "Happy Birthday" song from her wonderful family, she made a wish
and blew out her (too) many candles.
Happy Birthday, Jamie. We love you...just take it a little slower on your mama!
