Mazie Monday

Mazie had a big science fair project this year. The third graders participate in the science fair but don't compete. The fourth and fifth graders only compete. But it's good practice for the third graders for next year.

Mazie got a packet of science fair information about a month ago. She was so excited about it. She and Jeremiah* went right to work. They brainstormed on a few ideas and Mazie picked one. It was to see what happens to certain foods when you freeze and then thaw them. Mazie picked celery, a marshmallow, a slice of cheese, and bananas (one with the peel and one without).

So there was measuring...
Then freezing...
She tasted each piece of food before, during, and after (or attempted to) the freezing process to have complete data...
Then the thawing...
Of course, she recorded everything...
The kids got a display board to put their data and results on display...
Mazie did all the work. She cut out all her data, all the pictures, typed the results on the computer, pasted everything onto the board. It was fun to watch her work so dilligently.
She also practiced her presentation. She was supposed to just talk about her project. Nothing scripted which is just Mazie's way!
The science fair is on Wednesday. The displays on going to be in the library on Thursday and Friday for the parents to see! We are very proud of Mazie and all her work!
*Just a side note...Jeremiah had great difficulty just letting Mazie do it all. He wanted to do it. He's such a nerd! Jeremiah just guided her. I am very proud of him for letting her do it.
