Hero Day

Last Friday, the school had Hero Day. Some of the parents and teachers of the school put together a program celebrating the local firefighters, police, active duty military in the area. The kids get ready by making thank you cards or poems for the heroes. It's really a special day for both the kids and the heroes.

Since the morning kindergarten misses out on the day's festivities being that they are at the end of the school day, Jeremiah took the whole day off of work so he could go into Jamie's class. When we got to the school, Jamie's class was outside at their recess. So while we were waiting, Jacob checked out Jamie's desk...
Then the class came in and Jamie was so happy to see her dad. She was so proud to have him in her class and to show him off. He spoke to the class about what he does at work...
He even answered some of their questions. The kids seemed to enjoy him being there. Mrs. Shumaker talked a little about what a hero is and then presented him with his Thank You cards from the class.
We took Jamie home and, after nap, we went back to the school for the regular festivities. There were a few songs by the chorus...
and a presentation of flags to the heroes...
I know three children who are very proud of their hero...
Then it was off for the parade around the school. The kids were so happy to escort their dad down the hall, collecting notes and cards for him, and giving high fives...
We are very proud of all the heroes, especially ours. I love you, Jeremiah!
