Belt Test

Last night the girls tested for their next belts in Taekwondo. Saturday was originally the test date but since we got back really late we had to do the make up exam which was scheduled for last night. So after supper and a bath, we headed to the dojang for the test. The test time was 7:30 (which is normally bath time around here).

Jacob was all supportive in his yellow and blue stripes. Mazie was testing for her blue belt and Jamie was testing for her yellow...

First the kids got their medals for having more than 15 character stripes. Mazie had the most of the girls (beating out Jamie by just two stripes) which is why she has a trophy too.

Then the basic course tested. Jamie was so nervous. She kept looking at the other students to see what to do until Master Pejo told her to concentrate because she could do it...

And she broke her board on her first try with her elbow strike. This is what she was most proud of...

Then it was Black Belt Club Low (BBC Low) students. Mazie doing her poomse...

And her board break was the jumping side kick and she broke her board on the first try as well...

Before the belt ceremony, Mazie was awarded her certificate and dojang dollars for being October's Student of the Month! She gets $25 to use on things at the center's store. She had to fill out an interview and her picture and answers are displayed in the Student of the Month frame...

Now onto the ceremony. Jamie was so excited about this part. She took off her white belt like she was instructed to. When they called her name, she yelled, "Yes Ma'am" and ran to the front to recieve her new belt...

This was old stuff for Mazie. She wasn't nervous and new what to do. So she did it like a pro...

And the hugs and kisses that were to thank us for taking the time to get them to the classes and tests. It was more of a Jacob sandwich!

Even though it was a late night, the kids did a great job. They worked very hard to receive their new belts and did an awesome job during their tests. I made cupcakes for them yesterday but decorated them last night.

Lemon cupcakes with blue letters. I wasn't even sure how we were going to all dress to support both girls. Mazie pointed out that we have blue jeans and yellow shirts (duh, mom!). I'm not sure if it will be that easy every time but we will try! Good Job, Girls-we are so proud of you both.
